NBA 2017 MVP race – part 6

(Originally posted on Saturday, 7 January 2017)

All the data I used I found on this site:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/

On 6 January 2017 the Golden State Warriors recorded their 6th loss of the season and now there are no teams with less the 6 losses.

With the assumptions described in this post:
http://glen-cook-fan-site.blogspot.com/2016/11/nba-2017-mvp-race-part-1.html ,
according to the data from the games up to 6 January 2017 the current NBA 2017 MVP race list is this:
1. James Harden: 2725.61      (projected team wins: 63)
2. Kevin Durant: 2527.49      (projected team wins: 69)
3. Russell Westbrook: 2175.25      (projected team wins: 47)
4. LeBron James: 2146.15      (projected team wins: 63)
5. Stephen Curry: 2110.69      (projected team wins: 69)
6. Kawhi Leonard: 1967.01      (projected team wins: 66)
7. DeMar DeRozan: 1823.16      (projected team wins: 56)
8. Kyle Lowry: 1737.83      (projected team wins: 56)
9. Kevin Love: 1678.61      (projected team wins: 63)
10. Giannis Antetokounmpo: 1594.51      (projected team wins: 42)

James Harden catapulted to the top of the list. One of the reasons was his insane triple double: 53 points 17 assists and 16 rebounds (sadly also 8 turnovers). The second reason, equally important, is the fact that Houston Rockets' projected number of wins increased by 5 (thanks to a VERY good recent record of this team). On the other hand Oklahoma City Thunder's projected number of wins decreased by 3 and this is one of the reasons why Russell Westbrook's projected MVP value dropped. By the way: Giannis Antetokounmpo showed himself for the first time in the top 10.
