Polish soldiers taking the oath

(Originally posted on Thursday, 11 November 2021)

We survived 123 years under total occupation of Poland by three empires: Russia, Germany and Austria and we regained independence on 11 November 1918. On this day (11 November) we celebrate the National Independence Day of the Republic of Poland.

In the movie above you can hear Polish soldiers taking the oath:

I, a soldier of the Polish Army, swear to faithfully serve the Republic of Poland, to defend its independence and borders. To uphold the Constitution, to protect the honour of the Polish soldier, to defend the military banner. For the cause of my Homeland in need my own blood or my life not to spare. So help me God.

In case of a war most Poles would fight without any hesitation, like we have fought in the past. After regaining independence in 1918 we survived Lenin and the Soviet communist revolutionary forces during the Polish-Soviet war (1919-1921). Later we survived Hitler and the German occupation of Poland during the World War II. Then we survived Stalin and the Soviet quasi-occupation of Poland during the time of the Iron Curtain. Now we feel pressure from an unexpected direction – there are some people in the West advocating for a kind of World government, which is stunning to us. Lenin wanted to rule the World. Hitler wanted to rule the World. Stalin wanted to rule the World. All the people who had wanted to rule the World turned out to be fucking despots, no doubt about it. We have never been scared by such assholes and we are good at destroying despotic systems sooner or later (during a war and/or occupation). But it would be better if some people (the despots) simply stopped trying to impose their will on free people from other countries. Hands off of Poland!
