The strangest dead ends in evolution

(Originally posted on Saturday, 11 August 2018)

“Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations.” What is the key word? Generations. Without new generations there would be no evolution of a particular species (for example of the humankind) because the species would simply die out.

Any human being who does not have children on purpose or who purposefully kills (also aborts) his (or her) own children is one of the strangest dead ends in evolution. That person's genes will simply vanish from the whole gene pool because of his (or her) own conscious decision. It's like genes' suicide.

Normal people (normal from the point of view of evolution) care about their own children as well as they can, because it maximises the chances that their genes will be passed from their children to the following generation. They do it subconsciously – it simply feels natural. The same way normal people don't harm their own children because that would be unnatural. Rightfully so. Any harm to a child means that there is a bigger risk that the harmed child in the future will NOT want to reproduce or will decide to kill (also abort) his (or her) own children or will develop a sexual behaviour that will make having children impossible. Or a combination of these things.

I think that every society should protect their young generation from any danger that may lead to the strangest dead ends in evolution. To be precise: by danger I don't mean religions that defend the normal model of a family – normal from the point of view of evolution!

Unfortunately in our crazy world it becomes more and more difficult to protect young generation from misguided opinions about what is normal and what is not. The real future of the humankind (people who have children and care about them as well as they can) have to constantly defend their right to raise their own children the way they think is adequate.
