1588 days of mice utopia

(Originally posted on Sunday, 5 July 2020)

Have you ever heard about John Calhoun's experiments, especially “Universe 25”? On these sites:

http://www.physicsoflife.pl/dict/calhoun's_experiment.html

https://www.victorpest.com/articles/what-humans-can-learn-from-calhouns-rodent-utopia

there are very good and clear descriptions of this experiment.

Please notice that the maximum possible mice population was never reached AND that the mice society didn't recovered even after their population fell down back to low levels, so the long term problem was NOT about overpopulation.

Maybe the problem was the lack of work? In my country there is a saying “Work ennobles”, so by reversing it we might say that “Lack of work degenerates”. Please notice that “work” is not only “job”, so even if you are currently unemployed you can still find many things to do, for example for your family and/or society.
